5 Reasons You Need A Site That Is Mobile
"Google It." I'll take a guess that you say that at least a few times a week. Why? Google is almost now synonymous with Internet searches. Did you know, however, that over 48% of all Google searches start from a mobile device? Chances are your customer right now is searching for your type of business or service, and they're doing it from a smartphone. More than 40% of all websites in 2015 are still not mobile friendly. Here are five reasons that you need a need a mobile site.

1) Google (and your customer) prefers sites that are mobile friendly.
You may have heard of a term mobile-geddon by now. Mobilegeddon is a reference to the policy change that took place on April 21st, 2015 by the search giant otherwise known as Google. As of April 21st, Google is now giving higher rankings and priority to websites that are tagged as mobile friendly when being searched on a mobile device. Even if your desktop site looks beautiful, if you do not have a mobile friendly site to go along with it, expect your rankings to go down. (If they haven't already)

2) Mobile sites are tailored for smartphones
If you found a website of a company on your desktop and wanted to call them, typically you're going to grab your smartphone out and dial the business. When you're browsing a desktop only site on your phone, its not quite that simple. You may have to try and remember a number that appears very tiny on the desktop view of a phone and then have to go to your dialer and remember that number, only to realize you transposed a number and you end up calling that one crazy Aunt of yours who you forgot to pickup from the airport one day.
On a website that is responsive or mobile-friendly, there are specific CTA's or Call To Actions that allow a user to tap a button and it starts calling the business. Same goes for maps, it will typically feed it into your navigation app of choice.

3) Mobile sites provide a better overall experience
Besides the tap to call or tap for directions buttons you can have on a mobile site, everything is optimized on a mobile-friendly website. You don't have to worry about customers "pinching and zooming" their way around your page. Or having large pop-up animated images on their screen and then they can't find the button to close it out and they in turn throw the phone against a wall and now we can't have dessert. (That may or may not have actually happened). The point is, viewing a desktop ready site on a smartphone is very frustrating. Many customers will just end up hitting the back button and returning to a previously viewed site they know to be mobile-friendly.

4) Quick Access
Most of the time a customer getting to your website just needs some quick and easy information. Websites can be tailored to the mobile viewing experience to dynamically give the customer the information they need at that time on a mobile phone verses a desktop or even a tablet.

5) Your competition has a mobile website
Newly created websites should all be mobile. In 2015, there is no reason your developer should be building you a desktop-only site. If they're not, my contact details are below. Your competitors that are popping up with new websites are likely having a mobile-friendly site built, which means according to point number 1, Google is going to favor them over you.

Just like website design ranges from no use of images to the overuse of them, same is true with icons today. More than ever, some webpages are being cluttered with icons, that often add no context to the page or just add nothing to the user experience.

What’s more important to you: A shiny trophy for being number one on Google or a boat load of new clients coming your way.

Yes, we have said before that the number one position on Google gets 33% of the traffic for that keyword, but what do you see coming up as number one now-a-days?

Local Directories come up first. Do a quick Google search for anything local business related, for instance "restaurants near me". I did this search, and not one result on the first page was from a local business website. ALL of the first 10 results were local review sites such as Yelp, TripAdvisor and OpenTable.

Now to be fair, there were three local results that appeared first, in what we call the Google Snack Pack. Before the website results, Google displays three locations from Google Maps, which is also very important. For websites though, it was all local directories.

There's pros and cons to this type of Facebook post. The pro, well, you're making an attempt to create business. The cons? How do you set an expiration date on that? Even if you indicate one in the post, there could be that customer that just says "oh, I didn't see that". Further, how do you keep track of it? Are you going to write down on a sheet of paper every time someone comes in and says "Hey, I saw this post on Facebook". Also, not everyone wants to mention that. People want to present coupons and get a deal, they don't want to announce that they're getting a deal.
